ICAD's OUTREACH PROGRAMS

The following are community partnerships, at which all ICAD's services are provided at no cost to the families.

¨ Community Action Inc. Head Start Programs, Haverhill, MA. A team of four ICAD staff and volunteers travels over 100 miles once a week to two-preschools serving over 120 children to collaborate with Community Action, Inc. (CAI) Head Start programs. The children are referred by their teachers for a variety of reasons, such as developmental delays and social and/or behavioral problems.

¨ Empowering Youth Program, Collaboration with Wellspring House Inc./Cape Ann Families, Gloucester, MA. A team of four ICAD staff and volunteers travels over 100 miles once a week to collaborate with Wellspring House/ Cape Ann Families, a shelter for women and their children, many of whom are escaping domestic abuse. In this project, ICAD not only provides direct service but also trains Cape Ann Families staff and volunteers so that they can eventually provide services to children, resulting in a permanent resource for the community.

¨ Savio Preparatory High School, East Boston, MA. A team of five ICAD staff and volunteers travels 40 miles once a week to collaborate with Savio Preparatory, an inner-city independent Catholic high school of 400 students, with one guidance counselor and no special education services. Many of these students are the first in their working class families to attend a college preparatory school. ICAD provides diagnostic screening to all incoming freshman. When test data indicate that the adolescent has been affected by emotionally traumatic events they experienced, (such as threats from gangs and neighborhood shootings) and is at-risk for academic failure and adjustment problems, weekly counseling supplemented by family meetings is provided. These services would otherwise be unavailable to these students.
